Roquefort cheese is a blue/green veined white cheese, made from sheep’s milk. It can only be made in a specific region in France. The veins are from a bacteria, Penicillium Roqueforti, similar to other blue cheeses.

Roquefort is high in protein, but also high in fat and sodium, so should be avoided is on a weight loss diet and also if you daily salt intake is quite high from other foods. Maybe just crumble a little over a salad as a treat, as it is delicious. Roquefort also provides a good source of vitamins A, B1-B3, B5, B6, B12, calcium (twice as much as cheese from cow’s milk), phosphorus, potassium, and selenium.

It is great for health bones and teeth, given its high calcium content. Other Roquefort benefits include ease of digestion as it’s considered sheep’s milk is more acceptable to our digestive system than cow’s milk.
