My Weight Loss Story
Guest Article by Debbie from Kansas - Her weight loss story
Hi to all of you that are now, have been or may be where I am today. I have always been a “big” girl. When I was in 6th grade I was bigger than the other kids, not fat, just bigger. When I got married at 17 I weighed 145 pounds at 5'9. That's not bad, but after two babies, I started packing it on. So, this is just to let you all know that weight loss and good health are a lifetime job.
I got up to 250 pounds. I had tried everything. Atkins, Slim Fast, Weight Watchers, Ayds candy, and anything else I could think of to lose weight. So, I had surgery. I had the Silastic Ring Vertical Gastroplasty, that's were they put a little plastic ring at the top of your stomach, staple part of it off, and you pray it works. Well, it did. I got down to 170, was able to wear men's 36 button fly Levis, only problem, I didn't learn anything. I thought, just because I had that done, I didn't need to control what I ate, uh oh here it comes, exercise.
Long story short, here is it, 8 years after surgery, I now have been up to 290, right now I am 263. I have finally learned that the ONLY thing that will help me to be fit and healthy is to eat right and exercise. God made us that way. A person cannot continue to put just anything in the body, not move it, and expect to look like Heidi Klum.
So, now I have joined the local Curves (love it), ride a stationary bike, have started on the elliptical trainer at Curves, use a kettlebell at home and am starting a walking program. I haved downloaded every motivational podcast off Itunes that is free(and there a lot of them), have downloaded a lot of free exercise music (also from Itunes-FitMusic and others) and I just go.
My husband retires from the railroad in November this year, and I am going to be able to walk and hike, and have fun when we do because I finally got smart about my health. We are going to fulltime RV and I will be fit and ready when the time comes.
So for all of you out there that are thinking about doing something for yourself, quit thinking about it and do it. Its not hard, it won't hurt you, but it will insure a good life if you eat correctly and MOVE that body.
