Ingredients:

For the Filling:

1.5 kg (3.3 lb) of Apples (weight includes skin & core)

60g (2 oz.) brown sugar;

1 tbsp plain flour;

3 pinches ground cinnamon;

Sprinkling of raisins or sultanas (optional)

For the Crumble:

375g (13 oz.) plain flour;

220g (7.75 oz.) brown sugar

240g (8.5 oz.) unsalted butter, softened;


How to Make this
High Fiber Apple Crumble Recipe:

  • Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4
  • First, we'll make the crumble. Into a mixing bowl, add the plain flour (preferably through a sieve) and the brown sugar. Add small cubes of butter to the mixture, a few at a time. Blend the mixture. Keep adding small amounts of butter until the consistency is like breadcrumbs. If you find that you have too much butter as the mixture has become too wet, then just add more flour.

  • Once the crumble is made, take an oven proof dish and grease with butter. Peel and remove the core from the apples, slice them roughly and add to the bowl. Sprinkle over the sugar and cinnamon. If you are also adding raising or sultanas then add at this point.
  • Spoon the crumble mixture over the apple
  • Cook in the oven for about 40-45 minutes
  • This will make approx 10 servings. Serve warm with cream or ice-cream. It's also delicious served on its own.
