General rule: choose lean ground beef only to start with, pan-brown where possible. Browning is the process of partially cooking meat to help remove excessive fat. When pan browning ground beef, preheat frying pan to avoid sticking, stir the meat during cooking when the meat has browned and released juices and fat (about 5-10 minutes but depends on quantity), remove the pan from the heat and drain off the excess fat.
