Herring are found in the northern seas of the Atlantic and Pacific, they have a steely blue back and silvery belly. As well as buying them fresh, we can find them as Rollmops (pickled), Whitebait (small Herring) and Kippers (smoked).

They are a delicious fish to eat, simple to prepare and cook - either bake, grill or fry them.

Herring provides a good source of vitamins B1-B3, B5, B6, B12, D, phosphorus, potassium, and selenium as well as other vitamins and minerals. They also provide lots of protein.

Herring are an oily fish and are therefore rich in omega-3 fatty acids. They are thought to help protect against cardiovascular diseases. Other Herring benefits are believed to include lowering both your bad cholesterol (LDL) and blood pressure.
