There are 245 kcal in 100 grams of roasted Chestnuts, which is a lot less when compared to the other nuts, they contain very little fat most of which is unsaturated fat and no gluten.  They do have a high carbohydrate content with 86% of all calories from carbs and twice the amount of starch than potato.  Chestnuts are an exceptionally good source of vitamin C, especially raw Chestnuts with 40 mg per 100 grams, vitamin C in roasted Chestnuts drops to 26 mg per 100 grams. Vitamin C is essential for numerous physiological functions in the human body, it protects our body against oxidative stress, boosts our immune system and is a natural antihistamine.

Chestnuts are rich in folate (folic acid), fiber, potassium, phosphorus, iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese and zinc. Chestnuts contain more potassium than bananas. Potassium neutralizes the hypertensive action of sodium, lowers blood pressure and reduces the risk of heart attacks and stroke. Other Chestnut benefits include preventing Iron deficiency anaemia and neural tube defects in the foetus as it is a good source of folate.

It is considered that if you eat a portion of nuts about twice a week, it was reported in the respected medical journal called "Obesity", that you are less likely to gain weight than those who do not eat nuts.
