The Flat Belly Diet by Liz Vaccariello and Cynthia Sass will show you how to lose belly fat by following the belly fat diet meal plan that consists of certain foods that burn belly fat. Liz is the Editor-in-Chief of Prevention and Cynthia is a registered dietitian who has master’s degrees in both nutrition science and public health.
This book was written back in 2008 and aimed at those who need to lose belly fat. As we get older and put on weight, it all seems to center around our stomaches, and when we lose weight, the weight is lost from other parts of our body. Our metabolism slows as we increase in age, but most people fail to adjust how much they eat, so those excess calories have to be stored somewhere and are never burnt off. Think of the effect of that happening to your body every day. So, how to attack the stubborn belly fat? Liz and Cynthia believe they have the answer.
They claim they have developed the Flat Belly Diet plan that will not only result in losing the belly fat, but have you wanting to eat the right foods every day.
The diet was tested on eleven ladies at the Yale University School of Medicine. Each lady weighed more than 200 pounds. After following both phases, the average weight lost was eight and a half pounds. With the fat loss measured, it showed in just 4 weeks they had reduced their risk of getting heart disease by 25% it is claimed. Bad cholesterol and blood pressure also fell.
Stomach fat is made up of two types; subcutaneous and visceral. Visceral is the most dangerous, it’s the invisible fat deep inside, probably wrapped around some of our major organs that may cause major diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. Subcutaneous fat is the layer of fat stored directly underneath our skin. Liz and Cynthia claim the only way to reduce this fat is to eat monounsaturated fat. Good sources of which include avocados and fresh nuts.
This diet has two main phases; four day anti-bloat jumpstart and the four week eating plan.
The first phase seeks to remove excess fluid from your body, improve digestion and remove any feelings of either being bloated or having constipation. You will need to follow the prescribed belly fat burning foods list.
After four days you move straight onto the second phase. Each day you will eat 1600 calories, with three main meals and one "snack pack". The book contains 84 easy to prepare meal options and 28 different snack ideas. Each meal you eat will contain monounsaturated fat.
There is also an exercise plan. It’s not mandatory, but they claim it will help you to reach your goal quicker.
