Hazelnuts are also known as either cobnuts or filbert nuts. They are commonly used in chocolate and called pralines. I’m sure you’re familiar with Nutella. Like all nuts they have a hard shell you need to prise open. Hazelnuts are very good for you. Just over half the nut is made up of Mono and Polyunsaturated fats. Hazelnuts are full of Protein, vitamins and minerals and high in vitamins B1 (Thiamine), B3 (Niacin), B6, B9 (Folate or Folic Acid), E, K, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Phosphorus, Zinc, Fiber and a whole lot more.
Due to their good fat content and the fact they contain no cholesterol, they help to lower blood pressure, help protect against heart disease and may also lower your levels of cholesterol. Other Hazelnut benefits include additional protection against cancer given their high antioxidant content, and helping to improve your mental health.
As with all nuts they contain both carbohydrates and saturated fat so don’t have more than two portions a week.
It is considered that if you eat a portion of nuts (30 grams) about twice a week, it was reported in a journal called "Obesity", that you are less likely to gain weight than those who do not eat nuts.
