There are many different varieties of strawberry. They are great as part of your weight loss program being very low in fat, containing no cholesterol, and also very low in calories. According to the US Nutritional Database, strawberries contain just 32 calories per 100g serving and just 0.3 g of fat.

Strawberries are right up there as an excellent provider of antioxidants, considered the fourth best fruit. Unfortunately strawberries do not stay fresh for very long and bruise very easily, so consume them as soon as you can.

Strawberries are full of vitamin C. One portion (3.5 oz. or 100 g) provides nearly your entire daily recommended intake. In addition, a portion contains nearly 5 grams of sugar which helps to regulate our blood sugar level, and lessen the risk of type 2 diabetes. There really is no need to sprinkle more sugar on them before eating.

Strawberries are full of phytonutrients. Research is showing that with regular consumption, they act as an anti-inflammatory and provide relief from rheumatoid arthritis. Other strawberry benefits are believed to include added protection against cardiovascular disease. They are also full of manganese, providing 19 % of our recommended daily intake. Manganese is thought to be great for building our bones.

Strawberries are a good source of 20 different anti-aging minerals, such as selenium, chromium and zinc. They also provide a good source of ellagic acid thought to be a good protector against cancer.
